Jyoti Randhawa fared better than his compatriots but only just as the Indian golfers got off to a poor start at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.

On a hailstorm-hit day,Randhawa began on a promising note, hitting two birdies on the first three holes but a double bogey on the fifth saw him making the turn at even-par. He picked up another shot soon after to be one-under over 10 holes and tied 40th.

The par-four fifth was a thorn in Shiv Kapurs flesh too,as the Delhi golfer made a treble on his way to a level-par 72 round for tied 64th spot. Jeev Milkha Singhs 74 and SSP Chowrasias 75 cards were reflective of the fact that the duo bore the brunt of the rough weather the most. Finishing their rounds after play was suspended for two hours in the morning,Jeev, tied 93rd,risked missing the cut as did SSP who was tied 106th.

Topping the chart were Swedes Johan Edfors and Mikael Lundberg, both of whom fired six-under 66. Oliver Fisher,Francisco Molinari and Jarmo Sandelin shot five-under 67 each to be tied third.
