The Indo-US relations were getting “stronger and better” not only at the bilateral level but also on the global basis with the countries working together on some key issues,US Ambassador Tim Roemer said on Wednesday.
“President Barack Obama has said that broadening and deepening the relationship between India and US is one of his key goals. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in the US talking to the world about key economic issues and he will also be
going to the US in November for the President’s first state dinner,” Roemer told reporters here.
“This relationship continues to get stronger and better and more importantly not only at the bilateral basis but on a global basis working together on some of the key issues going forward,” he said.
Roemer, who called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for the first time after becoming the US envoy, termed the meeting as “satisfactory and productive.”
He said he talked “politics in which the Chief Minister is eloquent in and comes very close to our politicians’ enthusiasm for vibrancy of the system here”.
Roemer said Obama had asked him to visit as many places as possible in India and the Chennai visit was part of that.
He also discussed with Karunanidhi about areas in which US and India had worked in the past. “We look for many more jobs and investment and the business opportunity going forward.”
