FIFA looking at Irish request for WCup replay

Irish officials asked football's world governing body for another chance because of Thierry Henry's blatant handball in the approach to France's decisive goal.

FIFA says it is looking at Ireland8217;s request for a replay against France in their disputed World Cup playoff.

Irish officials asked football8217;s world governing body on Thursday for another chance because of Thierry Henry8217;s blatant handball in the approach to France8217;s decisive goal.

FIFA says it has received a formal request from the Football Association of Ireland.

FIFA organizes the World Cup and must sanction any replayed match.

There is no precedent to order a match replayed because of second-guessing a referee8217;s judgment on the field of play.

Henry controlled the ball with his hand before passing to William Gallas who scored in extra-time in Paris Wednesday. The match ended 1-1 and France advanced 2-1 on aggregate.
