Dwyer scare
When Australia made the World Cup final in 2006,Jamie Dwyer, nursing an injury, could only watch from the sidelines as the team lost to the Germans to finish as runners-up. En route to guide his team into the final on Thursday, the inspirational Aussie had a scare again, when he rolled over the ball while going for a strike against Holland. To Australias relief, the two-time world player of the year is fine and raring to go. I am alright,it a minor thing. I cant wait to play Germany in the final. Hopefully, you will see a different result this time, he said.
Fever pitch
Ric Charlersworth raised the pitch against the turf again after his team and also Holland failed to clearly take penalty corners. Its a shame that you are playing such big tournament at such turfs. Both ends have problems but one end is worse than the other. If world class players cant stop the ball, you need no proof that the turf is not up to the mark, he said.
Ready to mingle
Argentina might have a battle lined up against the hosts on Friday for the seventh-place finish, but a day before, the players were choosing to just take in the World Cup ambience from the middle of the stands. A bunch of Argentine players arrived to the general stands to watch the England-Germany semi-final in the evening, and good-naturedly signed autographs and posed for photographs. They disappeared as soon as the final hooter sounded.
