Corruption main threat to Communist Party rule: Wen

The anti-corruption work at present is still not up to the expectations of the public,Wen said.

Describing corruption as the ‘most crucial’ threat to the ruling Communist party hold on power,Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao today said it could completely undermine the country’s political foundations if not handled properly.

“Corruption is the most crucial threat to the ruling party,” Wen was quoted by the state-run Xinhua news agency as saying at an anti corruption conference.

Wen,who is set to retire this year after decade in power,pledged to improve the transparency of Chinese government’s operations and create more conditions for the public to supervise the government.

The anti-corruption work at present is still not up to the expectations of the public,Wen said adding that corruption may completely undermine the country’s political foundations if not handled properly.

Wen particularly called for a prompt response to the issues raised by the public and the media.

Those issues should be carefully investigated and handled in accordance with the law while the result should be provided or made public,said Wen.

Wen also gave a briefing on the anti-corruption policies to be adopted in six major areas.

The Communist party has been ruling China since the People’s Republic was founded in 1949.
