A brand new putter helped SSP Chowrasia card the day’s best card — a bogey-free eight-under 62 — and grab the second-round lead at the Singha Thailand Open on Friday. The Kolkata pro needed only 25 putts at the par-70 Laguna Phuket Golf Club. At 12-under 128,Chowrasia was a shot ahead of Welshman Rhys Davies,who shot a 64. Third place was taken by Gaganjeet Bhullar,who carded a 66 to total 10-under 130.

Chowrasia’s round included a birdie on the eighth hole. Also,Anirban Lahiri was tied for the 19th spot with five-under 135. Jyoti Randhawa (68),Digvijay Singh (73) and Amandeep Johl (69) were tied at the 31st spot at four-under 136 each. Shiv Kapur’s 68 left him three-under 137 in total,and he shared the 42nd spot with,among others,Himmat Rai (73).
