After Abhinav Bindras outburst against the National Rifle Association of India NRAI on Saturday, the shooting body announced on Monday that the Beijing Olympic gold medallist will not be part of the squad for the next months Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Delhi as well as the first two World Cups in Sydney and Beijing in March and April, respectively.
The teams have already been selected and the government has also given its approval,so we cant make any changes right now, said NRAI secretary-general Baljeet Singh Sethi.
As per ISSF rules, even if Bindras name is included as the fourth or fifth shooter for the first two World Cups,he cannot compete in the medal round.
Decision on Tuesday
Sethi, however, said the the federation was ready to consider his name for the next two world events in the US and Serbia in May/June and a decision in this regard would be made on Tuesday.
Abhinavs father AS Bindra will be meeting the ministry officials and government observer Murad Ali on Tuesday. They have certain demands and they will also be meeting Suresh Kalmadi. The IOA has set up the meeting and they are keen to resolve the issue.
Abhinav can take part in one of the World Cups to be held in the US and Belgrade and Suresh Kalmadi will decide which one. For the third and fourth World Cup,we are considering his international scores and he does not need to take part in the trials, which got underway in Pune on Monday, Sethi added.
The decision comes two days after Bindra said he was hurt by the way he was being treated by the shooting body.
The shooter said he had intimated NRAI and the sports ministry in September last year about his availability for all four World Cups to be held this year.
I had given my consent to NRAI and the ministry about my availability for the ISSF World Cup to be held in March, which was earlier scheduled to be held in Delhi and later shifted to Sydney .
I had sent a letter regarding my confirmation in September only as apart from the CWG,all the four World Cup are in my plans to prepare for London, said Bindra.
Meanwhile,Sethi said Bindra will have to take part in trials for the CWG and World Championship. He has to take part in those trials. We will be taking the trials score for these events, added Sethi.
