Raina fined for dissent

LONDON: Suresh Raina was fined 25 per cent of his match fee for a Level I breach in ICCs Code of Conduct on the first day of the second cricket Test against West Indies. It relates to showing dissent at an umpires decision by action or verbal abuse. After first days play concluded,the batsman pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction offered to him by match referee Chris Broad. The release states,The batsman shook his head to indicate that he did not hit the ball which seemed to be an attempt to influence the umpires decision. On being given out,he looked to the sky in disgust and then after picking his bat up from the ground swung it at the dirt and shook his head again.

Pak players in plenty for SLPL

FAISALABAD: Sri Lankan Premier League T20 tournament have started to rope in more Pakistani cricketers for the event. Mohammad Yousuf,Younus Khan,Shahid Afridi are among the Pakistani cricketers who have signed contracts for the league starting July 19. Other players included are Abdul Razzaq,Fawad Alam and Shahzaib Hasan,upcoming batsman Asad Shafiq and opener Ahmed Shehzad. Fast bowler Md Irfan is also being roped in,while Umar Gul is said to have been given a contract.

England ruin Sanaths farewell

London: A fiery opening spell from England fast bowler James Anderson allowed Alastair Cook to celebrate his first home match as one-day captain with a thumping 110-run win over a shell-shocked Sri Lanka at The Oval on Tuesday. Englands main strike bowler as he made sure their total of 229-8 off 32 overs in the first ODI could not be touched,as Lanka folded up for 121. Meanwhile,Sanath Jayasuriyas farewell to his international career ended in disappointing fashion here as he made just two runs in the first ODI.
