
With reports of Pakistan deploying additional troops on its eastern border, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has asked Islamabad to desist from raising war hysteria and instead focus on arresting the accused of Mumbai terror attacks.
Holding Pakistan responsible for creating a war-like situation, Mukherjee said: 8220;Unfortunately an atmosphere of war-hysteria has been created by Pakistan. But the war is not an issue. The focus is on Mumbai terror attacks and the unprecedented scale, magnitude, ferocity and audacity with which the attacks were launched.8221;
He was speaking on the sidelines of a national conference of Persian teachers at Krishnanath College in Behrampore on Saturday.
He asked the Pakistan government to avoid creating tension in the name of war.
8220;Do not try to divert the world8217;s attention from the core issue of terrorism, which is a global problem. Learn to face the problem and do not dodge it. This is my appeal to the people, leadership and the government of Pakistan,8221; said the minister .
He also made it clear war is not a solution. Mukherjee said, 8220;Now we are garnering support of the international community to ensure that Pakistan complies with specific demands of India to combat terrorism.8221;
He added, 8220;I have categorically mentioned that the phrase 8216;Islamic terrorism8217; makes no sense. Islam means peace and terrorism is just the reverse.8221; Mukherjee was accompanied by officials of the Iranian Embassy at the function. He said that India and Iran have deep-rooted links in terms of history, heritage and culture, which bind both the civilisations since ancient age.
