MUMBAI, February 4: Pragya Mishra, a mere 13-year-old, from Chennai and making her debut in the ABN-Amro Bank and Kores-sponsored All-India Ladies Golf Championships, moved without any difficulty into the second round of the matchplay event as Shakuntala Chauhan, her opponent, conceded a match at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club Course here today.

Pragya meet seasoned Vandana Agarwal, of Calcutta, the national champion, who did not fare well in the Billoo Sethi Stroke Play competition, finishing fourth with a score of 158, 14-over par for the par 72 course. It will be a clash between youth and experience, with Pragya having just qualified to participate from the bronze division.

In the only first round match played today, Neesha D8217;Silva beat Madhur Khanna 6 and 5. Comfortable as her victory was one cannot imagine Neesha bringing off a Simmran Singh act 8212; the veteran knocked out Jeev Milkha Singh in the first round of a Mmajor matchplay event 8212; against Parnita Garewal, yesterday8217;s winner of the BillooSethi trophy and three Major titles earlier.

Easy successes were recorded in the first round of the Vikramaditya Trophy Trophy, a matchplay event for players in the Bronze Division. Asha Seghal Delhi beat Asha Doshi Mumbai 7 and 6, While Mehroo Irani Mumbai disposed off Ritu Lumba Delhi three up. P Ramaswamy conceded a walk-over to Aruna Sharma Delhi.

Young Sports win

Young Sports maintained their winning streak when they defeated Khalsa Gymkhana A 3-1 in the Bombay Hockey Association Senior Division League at the Mahindra Stadium, today.

Young Sports could have finished with a tennis-like score but Khalsa goalkeeper Karan Bhasin, who brought off seven saves, frustrated Young Sports8217; other attempts.

S G Varma gave Young Sports the lead when he scored a field goal in the second minute. Then a brace of field goals by Sameer Mulla spelt doom for Khalsa, who scored their consolation goal through Aashish Gonsalves in the 52nd minute.
