Despite the new-found bonhomie between arch rivals and exiled former Pakistani prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, their parties at the grassroot level are unwilling to forge the much-hyped electoral alliance to defeat the pro-Musharraf political parties.

Bhutto8217;s Pakistan People8217;s Party PPP and Sharif8217;s Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz have fielded candidates against each other in a number of constituencies in the elections for the 342 national Assembly and four provincial assemblies. 8216;8216;Whatever adjustment was possible has been done and no more is being done,8217;8217; a PPP spokesman was quoted as saying by the local daily Dawn.
