
PATIALA, April 4: The Punjab Congress today, took a serious view of the state government8217;s move regarding the acquisition of the piece of land leased by the Congress for the tercentenary celebration functions of the Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib. Bir Devinder Singh, general secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress and in-charge of the committee for celebrations, while talking to the mediapersons here today, said it seemed that the government was trying to sabotage the Congress party8217;s show.
He said Badal was trying to monopolise the celebrations by organising only sarkari functions and this was likely to lead to tension.
He said if the government failed to arrive at a solution to the problem soon, the Congress may be compelled to seek legal remedy for it. All the senior party leaders are leaving for Delhi to attend the urgent meeting summoned by the Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh to discuss the matter at length, tomrorow, he informed.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Satwant Singh Mohi also strongly condemned the action of the Badal government in acquiring the 12 acre land at village Mattour, near Anandpur Sahib. He urged Badal to immediately withdraw the acquisition proceedings.
Flaying the action of Badal govenment, Mohi said that about 1 lakh persons, including foreign delegates, are likely to attend the function organised by the Congress. The government would be responsible for any law and order problem that occurred due to denial of the land, he warned.
