Want a vote, better watch this out!A Group of senior citizens under the umbrella of Sadhana Vichar Manch have prepared their own manifesto and asked the political parties and candidates contesting the elections to give their commitment to the 20-point programme.

A statement issued by G P Pradhan, P R Dubhashi, P S Karekar and R D Samarth lamented that political parties issued manifestos only to gain votes by making promises which were forgotten as soon as they come to power.

In its citizens8217; manifesto, the manch has stated that citizens wanted politics of principles and corruption should be completely eliminated from public life.

No party should give a ticket to any person with a criminal background and each candidate contesting the elections should take an oath never to indulge in unparliamentary activities. Steps like the German system of constructive vote of no-confidence should be introduced while the right to information should be bestowed on every citizen through suitable legislation.

The citizens8217; manifesto also demands that a civil service board should be constituted to implement a policy regarding transfers of civil servants while the law and order machinery should be overhauled on the lines of the recommendations of the Police Commission 1978.

Insisting on the modernisation of defence forces, the manifesto urges that a proper policy should be drafted to look after the injured soldiers and the families who laid down their lives for protecting the nation.
