Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has been booked for violating the model code of conduct during the Patna Corporation elections on Tuesday.

Modi violated rules by travelling in his official car with a red beacon to the polling booth at Rajendranagar to vote. The State Election Commission had prohibited the use of red beacon cars within a radius of 200 metres of polling booths. An FIR has been registered against Modi.

When contacted, Chief Election Officer J K Dutta said that the matter had come to their notice and they have asked the District Magistrate of Patna to inquire. 8220;Use of beacon lights is a violation of the code of conduct,8221; Dutta said.

Polling took place in 1,149 booths amidst massive security arrangements in Patna to elect 72 ward members. This is the biggest electoral exercise in the state after the panchayat polls last year. Like the panchayat polls, here too half the seats have been reserved for women and 20 per cent for the backward classes. These polls too are being held on an apolitical basis.
