8226; Two murderous attacks on Pakistan8217;s President Pervez Musharraf in just eleven days is a sad comment on the way terror targets those who use it as an instrument of power 8216;Twice terror-bitten, General says he will never shy away8217;, IE, December 26.

Apart from spawning the fundamentalist-terrorism network, the Pakistani government8217;s involvement in nuclear proliferation and the IC-814 hijack is also coming to light.
Under these circumstances, would it be sagacious to move the peace initiative forward? Surely Islamabad would now be a very unsafe place to hold the Saarc summit.

On Prez Pervez

8226; Knowing President Pervez Musharraf very well, one must not rule out the possibility of these 8216;8216;attempts8217;8217; on his life being staged at the behest of the general himself 8216;We strongly condemn, says Delhi, wary of Saarc security8217;, IE, December 26.
In fact, that they come so close to the Saarc meeting only strengthens this suspicion.

Two together

8226; The exchange of sweet somethings between Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Kalyan Singh indicates significant happenings round the corner in the new year 8216;Sweet meetings8217;, IE, December 26. For Kalyan Singh it is a coming home after his sojourn in the political wilderness and anonymity.
The saying with a little modification would read as, 8216;8216;Shaan bachchi lakhon paye; khair se budhdhu ghar ko aye8221; saved dignity is worth lakhs of rupees; safe homecoming is good luck.

Poll vaults

8226; Let the prime minister hint and wink at his able party colleagues 8216;On birthday, PM looks forward, hints at polls sooner rather than later8217;, IE, December 26. However, the people of India should not incur early poll expenses to suit any political party8217;s winning chances. Let the elections be held as per schedule.

Slowly, slowly

8226; Pamela Philipose is getting a little ahead of herself 8216;Missing pieces in the jigsaw8217;, IE, December 26. The changes taking place in Kashmir and the Indo-Pak situation are not propelled only by the two countries. There is a sea change visible across the world.

We have barely restored the status quo that obtained before before the attack on Parliament House and the writer jumps to demand the return of the Pandits. There is still a long way to go and many hurdles to cross.

Too little too late

8226; Whether Chhagan Bhujbal8217;s resignation is a reaction to NCP activists attacking Zee TV offices or a golden opportunity to flee the Telgi scam, only time will tell 8216;Bhujbal stamped out8217;, IE, December 25.

But his popularity would have been secured had he resigned a few days earlier when a scam tainted cop and Telgi8217;s lawyer named him as the kingpin in the stamp paper scam.
