Police lathi-charge Dalit rally

Police today lati-charged and lobbed teargas shells at a Dalit Congress workers8217; rally on the outskirts of the city.

Police today lati-charged and lobbed teargas shells at a Dalit Congress workers8217; rally on the outskirts of the city.

The Dalit Akrosh Rally which was headed in the direction of the Assembly, turned violent when it was stopped.

The workers started pelting stones at the police, who retaliated by using water canons and teargas shells to disperse the mob.

They finally resorted to lathi-charge after the Congress workers continued to throw stones.

A number of party MLAs, including Bharatsinh Solanki, opposition leader Arjun Modhwadia and others were detained.

The rally was organised to highlight the grievances of the Dalit community.
