
PUNE, May 6: The Pune Municipal Corporation PMC octroi collection wing, in a midnight operation, confiscated goods worth around Rs 10 lakh which had been brought in the city limits without octroi payment on Tuesday.
Led by Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor, an octroi vigilance squad searched several vehicles which had entered the city. Five trucks were found carrying goods on which octroi was not paid.
A truck owned by Sahani Transporters, authorised dealers of Bajaj company, was found carrying motor parts worth Rs 4 lakh. Another truck, owned by Suresh Ghule transporters, carrying foreign liquor bottles, was intercepted at Hadapsar.
A truck owned by Ghanashyam transporters, carrying cable wires, was intercepted at Tapkir Galli while a truck owned by Khan transporters, carrying tyres, was intercepted at Market yard. Kapoor said that a total fine of Rs 4 lakh will be recovered from these octroi evaders.
