
PUNE, March 19: The Pune Municipal Corporation today continued its drive against constructions that have come up at parking spaces. It demolished about 20,500 square feet illegal structures on Pune-Satara Road.
In a day-long drive from Jedhe chowk to Padmavati, the anti-encroachment squad pulled down about 33 illegal structures while notices have been issued to 84 individuals and establishments. Anti-encroachment squad chief Gautam Waghchoure told media persons the action on Pune-Satara Road would continue tomorrow as well.
MVA corporators Abhay Chhajed and BJP corporator Satish Misal tried to intervene in the action. They demanded various documents from the civic squad, asking the legality of the drive. The squad, however, completed the action without succumbing to any pressure.
The squad demolished a flat, admeasuring about 1000 square feet, which was built in stilt parking at Dashmesh Apartments. The squad also pulled down sheds at different places: 2500 square feet at Sambhaji Beedi, 4,800 sq ft at Swayamwar Mangal Karyalaya, 1200 sq ft at Maharashtra Coal Suppliers, 1500 sq ft at Hotel Ashray, 200 sq ft at Hotel Volga, 1160 sq ft at Shah building, 1200 sq ft at Gajanan Prasad, Shakti Merbel 400 sq ft, 500 sq ft at Laxminarayan theatre. A shed constructed on a terrace was also razed. Waghchoure said the corporation had demolished more than 60,000 square feet illegal structures in its drive.
