PM for more minority role in security agencies

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said he was 8220;waiting for the Sachar Committee report8221; on the social and educational status of Muslims, and action on it will follow soon.

The PM was elaborating on his opening remarks at the Congress chief ministers8217; conclave, wherein he called for increased representation for minorities in police and intelligence agencies. 8220;We have taken the initiative to appoint that committee. This will be the first comprehensive report on the various aspects of Muslims 8211; education, employment etc. Once we get it, we will decide on the further course of action,8221; he said, on being asked there were plans afoot to introduce job reservation for Muslims.

Sonia Gandhi also elaborated on her opening remarks about the potential alienation of Muslims. 8220;On several occasions, police have picked up innocent people. It gets wide media coverage. When they are released, that goes unreported. When we take strong measures against terrorism, we must also ensure that innocents are not harassed,8221; she said at the conclave.
