CHANDIGARH, Feb 17: The faculty members at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research observed a day8217;s fast in order to protest against the non-implementation of modified Baxi Committee recommendations.
It was business as usual for the faculty members, although they went without food, as they attended to their daily duties and to the Out Patient Department OPD rush.
According to the executive of the PGI Faculty Association, the fast is being observed as a silent protest against the lack of concern that has been shown by the government to the interest of the doctors.
Stressing the fact that despite provocation the PGI faculty members are exercising constraint as compared to their counterparts in AIIMS, New Delhi, the doctors said the agitation was more for striving to retain their status than to increase their salary.
