MUMBAI, JANUARY 18: Pentafour Software amp; Exports Ltd PSEL has rechristened itself as PentaMedia Graphics Ltd with a view to project itself as an entertainment company focussed on big, small and personal screens. The company has posted a 46 per cent increase in its turnover notching Rs 105.94 crore for the third quarter ended December 1999 against Rs 72.58 crore achieved during the same period last year.

Net profit of the company is up by 48 per cent to touch Rs 35.71 crore Rs 24.11 crore. Gross profit has jumped by 71 per cent to Rs 49.51 crore Rs 28.91 crore. Total expenditure was up at Rs 59.27 crore Rs 37.12 crore while total income was Rs 108.86 crore Rs 73.56 crore. Other income amounted to Rs 2.89 crore Rs 1 crore.

The company has decided to finetune its operations in the areas of films/broadcasting, video, CD/DVD and internet entertainment. Marking its foray into internet broadcasting, the company has launched Num TV the new millennium TV, catering to the public of Asia and the US.The TV, which can be accessed through the company8217;s website, pentafour. com, is currently under test-run and will reach the broadcasting level in three months time, said a company release.

CIPLA: The company has registered a 15 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 102.72 crore for the nine-months ended December 1999 as against Rs 89.06 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Net sales/ income from operations for the period increased by 21 per cent to Rs 587.24 crore as against Rs 485.75 crore in the previous year. Cipla8217;s net sales and net profit for the third quarter ended December 1999 increased substantially to Rs 187.15 crore and Rs 34.82 crore respectively as compared with Rs 163 crore and Rs 33.06 crore in the corresponding period of 1998.

Total expenditure and interest for the nine months ended December 31, 1999, stood at Rs 454.94 crore and Rs 98 lakh respectively. Depreciation and provision for taxation were higher at Rs 11 crore and Rs 37 crore respectively. Other income,however, dipped to Rs 19.40 crore as against Rs 20.53 crore in the previous year. The last quarter is expected to see the launch of three anti-asthma products, even as the company plans to set up a new areosol facility to manufacture CFC-free inhalers at Kurkumbh.
