The ongoing peace talks between Pakistan and Indian officials are expected to be completed before this year end and the Pakistan Prime Minister will be visiting India in October-November to round off the discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

This was stated by Pakistan’s Acting High Commissioner to India Munnavar Saeed while addressing a small gathering at Gandhi Bhavan Library here.

The High Commissioner was on a two-day visit to Hyderabad.

Saeed said people strongly desired peace and that the two governments were stepping forward in the right direction. ‘‘We will not think of a war as both the countries have become nuclear powers,’’ he added.

India and Pakistan shared a similar culture and faced similar problems and both needed to wage a war against poverty, illiteracy and ill health.

‘‘I have brought a message of friendship from Pakistan, and I am happy to see that people in India are friendly and peace-loving,’’ Saeed said.
