There will be one third Indian spice in Pakistan’s $21 million earnings from the contracts for the next months historic cricket series against India.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan and two members of his bidding committee team disclosed details of all the financial contracts secured by the PCB for the five-match one-day series and three-match Test series.
“Since the Indian series has too much life, we have landed deals of $21 million (around Rs 1200 million) with some seven million dollars coming from Indian companies and the sum is more than what we expected,” Shaharyar Khan said in a press briefing to announce the details of the earnings.
Electronic giants Samsung won the title sponsorship for the series while Hero Honda has co-sponsors rights for $1.49 million.
“We knew that Indian companies have huge budgets but to save the series from being swamped by Indian companies we restricted some contracts for Pakistani companies,” said bidding committee member Mahmood, the first man to introduce sponsorship in Pakistan cricket. The Dubai-based Ten Sports (Taj Entertainment Network) of Abdul Rehman Bukhatir already has the television rights for the series for which they have raised the amount from $10 to 13.3 million.
“Since there are five one-day games and three Tests, the Ten Sports have raised the sum and also won the radio broadcasting rights for $150,000,” said Mahmood.
Some 40 per cent of the in-stadia advertising were restricted for the Pakistani company which was secured by MOMS (madison outdoor media services) for $383,000 while World Sport Nimbus landed the remaining 60 per cent for $1,287,000.
