But today, in what proved to be an anomaly from the proceedings till now, that passion threatened to put a little smudge on the hosts8217; efforts, even as their team seem to be in danger of going out of the tournament.
An argument between local mediapersons assumed serious proportions during the match between Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, causing the match to be abandoned after the tumult at the Bakshi Stadium here. By the end of the ordeal, it was charging policemen with sticks who were on the field, rather than the players.
The melee which ensued between local media and the organisers created a disturbance, during which Punjab took the lead.
Wrecking concentration
The spectators appeared to be incensed by what they thought wrecked the concentration of their side, causing them to concede the goal, and so began throwing stones, chairs, bottles, and whatever else they could lay their hands on, the direction of these hits being the mediapersons who were making their way out of the area.
As the cries grew louder, J038;K star Ishfaq Ahmad was made to walk to all parts of the ground in a desperate appeal for peace. But that happened to be in vain.
The remaining 22 minutes will be played tomorrow, with Punjab having already secured a 1-0 lead.
