BJP in power game, says Vajpayee
MUMBAI: Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has asserted that the BJP was “in the power game” but should not be dubbed as an opportunistic party merely because it had made alliances with various parties including the AIADMK. “We expect our alliance partners to be away from corruption but at the same time we can not impose our principles on them,” Vajpayee said in a defence of the tie-up with the AIADMK whose leader Jayalalitha is facing graft charges.
AIADMK demand
CHENNAI: AIADMK will demand dismissal of the DMK Government if the BJP front comes to power at the Centre and the AIADMK front wins a majority of the constituencies in Tamil Nadu in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. If DMK president M Karunanidhi was justified in demanding the dismissal of the M G Ramachandran Government in 1980 after winning the majority of the Lok Sabha constituencies in alliance with the Congress (I), it would not be wrong on AIADMK’s part to ask Karunanidhi to seek a fresh mandate, he said.
Karunanidhi flayed
CHENNAI: The BJP has taken exception to the DMK president, Karunanidhi’s, remarks that the BJP was a communal party and the DMK would not have any truck with it. L Ganesan, general secretary of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit in a statement here today said Karunandihi had described the BJP, in which people from all religious faiths were members, as a communal party, while giving a clean chit to the Indian Union Muslim League, which admitted Muslims alone as its members.
Himachal BJP
HAMIRPUR: Himachal Pradesh Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president Prem Kumar Dhumal today said the BJP would not enter into electoral adjustment with any other political party and would contest all the 68 seats in the coming assembly elections in the state. Talking to UNI here, Dhumal said persons with clean record would be given party tickets.
