Parents arrested for chaining child to dog

A couple was arrested and remanded to custody here for chaining their three-year-old child to a dog even as the state8217;s Child Welfare Council expressed its desire to adopt the kid, now staying in a juvenile home. Secretary of the Council P Krishnan said he had informed the District Collector about its readiness to take care of the child.

The couple revealed that they often left the child chained with the dog when they went out for work, said police. The child8217;s plight came to light when a relative of the couple came to their home at Mavadi village on Friday to invite them for a marriage.

The villagers informed the Santhanpara police of the matter and the couple 8212; Benny and Manju 8212; were arrested. The child8217;s body bore burn injuries and his ankles had chain marks caused by prolonged confinement.
