
NAGPUR, NOV 23: Minister for Agriculture and Textiles Ranjit Deshmukh has said that a committee has been formed to study revival of the ailing Nagpur Weavers Co-operative Yarn Mill, and has been asked to submit its report within a fortnight.
The State Government will take into account the committee8217;s report to decide upon whether to hand over the mill8217;s management to its members or the employees to run it. Deshmukh was speaking at a meeting organised at Ravi Bhawan to discuss the problems of weavers who rely on the mill for the supply of yarn.
The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament Vilas Muttemwar, legislator Nitin Raut, Kishore Kashikar, Director textiles Nanak Ramteke, weavers8217; leader Haribhau Naik, besides other representatives of the weavers.
Deshmukh said he was aware of the problems faced by weavers in the region following closure of the yarn mill three years ago. He assured that the Congress-NCP State Government was pledged to solve the problems and would hand over the mill whoever was willing to run it, be it the weavers or the employees.
Speaking on the occasion, Muttemwar and Raut urged the State Government to permit members of the weaver community to run the ailing mill. This would help in instilling confidence among them and give thrust to their capabilities, they said.
Prominent among those present were Ramesh Gupta, Joint Director Handloom Directorate Dilip Kalbhore, MD Davar, Vithalrao Barapatre, Ganpatrao Shahir, Vasantrao Parsheonikar, Gulabrao Bokde, Hemraj Hedau, Ramchandra Chapre, Deputy District Registrar Bhusari and others.
