VADODARA, May 27: The District Panchayat department has launched a drive to educate Bhuvas8217; traditional healers to spread health-awareness in the rural parts of the district as a part of its two year Reproductive and Child Health RCH plan.

An official release said on Wednesday that as a part of the plan, sponsored by the Government of India and the World Bank, a workshop for traditional healers was held in Chhotaudepur recently in which a large number of 8220;bhuvas8221; participated. Participants were informed about the general preventive and curative measures for various common diseases.

8220;The drive is a bid to inform the traditional healers to give up superstitions and adopt scientific measures to tackle common air and water-borne viral and bacterial diseases. The bhuvas8217; will first be informed about the facts themselves, and then exhorted to treat and guide the tribals subsequently8221;, district development officer Anju Sharma told Express Newsline.

According to her, the department plans to hold such workshops regularly in all the remote areas of the district. Young couples will also be involved in these to inform them about the basics of women8217;s and children8217;s health.
