ISLAMABAD, OCT 19: Pakistan today expressed regret over the decision by Commonwealth foreign ministers to suspend it from the British-led organisation after last week8217;s military coup.

A foreign office official said the Commonwealth move was quot;regrettablequot;.

The official, preferring anonymity, said the organisation did not realise the situation on the ground in Pakistan which had been passing through a phase of sham democracy8217;.

Inam ul Haq, Islamabad8217;s permanent representative at the United Nations, also said, quot;we regret the decision.quot;

Pakistanis have quot;welcomedquot; the change of government and their quot;verdictquot; should have been taken into account, the official APP news agency said quoting the envoy in New York.

quot;It is a sad thing that has happened,quot; analyst Talat Masood said.

quot;I am also saddened about the situation which had been created by the politicians in this country,quot; he told AFP, referring to the alleged autocratic rule of the deposed premier Nawaz Sharif.
