Jammu, May 19: Army troops foiled a major infiltration bid when they gunned down three heavily-armed Pakistani infiltrators in Sundarbani area of Nowshera sector in wee hours today.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops noticed some suspicious movement along the line of control (LoC) in Sundarbani area of Nowshera sector early today.

When the infiltrators were well within Indian territory security forces challenged them and asked them to surrender. But they started firing at the troops, who retaliated and in the ensuing encounter three Pakistani infiltrators were killed. The spokesman said some arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the encounter site, he added.

No casualty was suffered by the troops, he said and added that the identity of the slain infiltrators was not immediately known.
