The India-Pakistan Asia-Oceania group I Davis Cup play-off tie at the Brabourne Stadium here will be interesting on two fronts. Firstly, India8217;s Leander Paes is likely to return to singles play, and the tie April 7-9 will also see two close friends cross swords.

Paes, who has stayed out of the singles for some time because of a shoulder injury, hinted that he may also play singles. 8216;8216;I am practising hard to get ready for the singles. That8217;s why we have started to practice well in advance. This will help us to get used to the conditions, including the breeze which blows from South to North in the stadium,8221; Paes said.

And, then, Pakistan8217;s No. 1 player Aisam Qureshi 8220;is a good friend of mine, have toured together a lot, played as doubles partners,8217;8217; admits Rohan Bopanna, a key member of the Indian team.

8216;8216;I have played a lot with him and against him. I know his game very well,8217;8217; said Bopanna. Bopanna and Qureshi had won won the 25,000 Colorado Classic in Denver USA in August 2003. The top seeded Indo-Pak pair had beaten the second seeded American duo of Josh Goffi and Jason Marshall.

All pluses for India. Bopanna, however, cautioned: 8216;8216;Qureshi has a good game on grass. So we8217;re not going to take him lightly.8217;8217; Qureshi helped Pakistan beat Thailand last year by beating top ranked player Paradorn Srichaphan.
