PUNE, Sept 26: The Solapur division of the Central Railways has ordered an enquiry into the sudden collapse of a new foot overbridge on Thursday evening which was nearing completion at Bhigwan railway station in the Pune-Daund section.
A major accident was averted only since no train was scheduled when the foot overbridge broke down around 5.30 pm on Thursday evening. While no casualties were reported, three labourers were injured. They were working on the spot when the accident occurred.
Nana Talekar and Dhanjay Malwadkar received minor injuries while 30-year-old Vijay Kisan Garambe was admitted to the Gokul Kale Hospital in Baramati. All railway lines, however, blocked by the material of the bridge. Senior railway officials here revealed that it took more than 12 hours to clear the tracks. The incident, however, threw the Mumbai bound rail traffic out of gear as a result of which a majority of the trains were delayed by around four hours.
