AMBALA, May 31: Popular Cornea Transplant Expert Vinod Jain, who was killed in a road accident near Bahadurgarh yesterday, was cremated here today. Jain met with the accident after he was returning from Fatehabad, where he had performed cornea transplant operations at an eye-camp.

He was a popular ophthalmologist and was always known to help the poor. He was associated with a trust running free eye hospital at Meerut and other social welfare organisations rendering health services free of cost. He is survived by his parents, wife, two children and a brother, Ashok Kumar, vice-president of the DCC Urban Ambala Cantonment.

H Prakash Sharma, president of the society said his organisation had decided to campaign against the ills of tobacco chewing and smoking among the inmates of the slum areas. He said the society had already adopted one such colony in Ram Nagar to help the residents get rid of these addictions.
