CALCUTTA, March 3: Bengal will have to start afresh in the Ranji Trophy Super League against Maharashtra tomorrow, in spite of having earned five points against Delhi.
However, with both Delhi and Tamil Nadu having been banned from this year’s League, Bengal’s superior performance in the earlier match has come to nothing. Besides, they have been affected by the absence of Rohan Gavaskar and Nikhil Haldipur (representing India A in Pakistan).
Maharashtra have three points from their drawn match against Uttar Pradesh.
The venue will, however, be new for both teams. Cricket Association of Bengal decided to conduct the match at the Cricket Club and Football Club after they were advised to have Eden Gardens free at least three weeks before the Test match against Australia from March 18. Both the teams had a close look at the CC&FC wicket and are yet to decide on their combination for tomorrow.
