PATIALA, July 8: In order to prevent traffic snarls, the Municipal Corporation today introduced one-way traffic restriction in certain areas and notified certain public parking places.
The notification was issued today under the provisions of Section 229 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act 1976.
Municipal Commissioner H.S. Sidhu said the objective was to regulate the traffic movement. The notification, he added, followed the hearing of public suggestions and objections on the traffic movement in the city.
Sidhu said one-way traffic instructions will be applicable only to four-wheelers; two wheelers and rickshaws have been exempted from these restrictions.
These one-way traffic instructions will be applied in areas like Sheranwala Gate to Quila Chowk via Dharampura Bazaar and Adalat Bazaar, Nabha Gali to Anardana Chowk, Chandni Chowk to Sunami Gate and 22 Number Phatak to Chahal Nursery. Meanwhile, other roads will be open to two-way traffic. The movement and entry of heavy vehicles in the walled city will be banned from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
