AMBALA, FEB 28: One person was killed and six, including a former Haryana minister Manphool Singh, were injured in a clash between two groups, over the possession of land in Depa village near Naraingarh, yesterday.

Four of the seriously injured were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, after being admitted to the Civil Hospital, Naraingarh, 50 kms from here.

Armed with weapons, Manphool and his supporters had gone to the village to acquire the 700-acre land and had started ploughing it, which was resented by village sarpanch Barha Ram. Later, armed villagers also reached the spot.

As the sarpanch challenged Manphool, claiming that it was a common village land, the minister demanded that he produce the relevant documents. Meanwhile, one of Manphool8217;s supporters fired in the air, which resulted in retaliation by the villagers. In the ensuing melee several persons were injured, who were rushed to the hospital, where one Surnam Singh of Pinjore died.

Manphool Singh had fought the Lok Sabha election from Ambala reserved parliamentary constituency and had lost.

The police have registered cases against both the groups.
