NRI murder: 3rd accused, who pulled the trigger, held

Palam police today arrested the third accused in the kidnap and murder of NRI businessman K T Shameer, who was abducted in a private taxi from outside IGI Airport late October 10 evening.

Anil, alias Kalia, was held from Mahipalpur bus stop while returning home in the area. He had allegedly pulled the trigger on Shameer.

On Monday, the police had arrested two others suspected to be involved in the case 8212; identified as Manish and Monu 8212; from Sanjay Gandhi T-point. The three had fled to Haridwar after robbing and shooting Shameer, JCP Amulya Patnaik had said on Monday.

Police officials said Anil was the main culprit 8212; sitting in the backseat of the white Ambassador taxi with Monu, with the NRI cloth merchant sandwiched between, he had reportedly pulled the trigger of the countrymade pistol. The trio had then dumped the body on NH-8, near Manesar, and sped off.

Officers said interrogation of the three suspects has revealed that they had planned the murder in advance. Also, since Shameer could understand their conversations and had seen their faces they ran the risk of arrest soon if he was left alive, the three have reportedly told the police.

Police sources said the accused used Shameer8217;s ATM cards and withdrew Rs 2.98 lakh; the police have recovered Rs 1.56 lakh. Of the victim8217;s two cellphones that they took the police have recovered one; a knife and the countrymade pistol used in the crime have also been seized, officers said.

Shameer, had arrived at IGI from Ahmedabad on a Spice Jet flight on October 10 and was looking for a cab to take him to a hotel in Paharganj when he got into the trio8217;s Ambassador taxi. According to police, Manish had procured the illegal countrymade pistol used in the crime.
