MUMBAI, APRIL 9: Mumbaikars will be exempt from paying toll tax for using the 55 flyovers under construction in the city, Public Works Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the legislative assembly today.

In a written reply to Suresh Gambhir, Bala Nandgaonkar and Sitaram Dalvi, Gadkari however said the buses of the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) as well as BEST Undertaking will have to pay toll tax. “But there will be absolutely no burden on the commuters travelling by these buses,” he added.

On the bridges being constructed by the Public Works Department with the participation of the private sector, Gadkari said the users will have to pay toll tax. For projects upto Rs 20 crore, the toll tax on car, jeep, Tata Sumo will be Rs 8, for light vehicles – Rs 12, for trucks and buses – Rs 25, heavy vehicles – Rs 40, while there will be no tax on tractors, two- and three-wheelers and bullock carts.

For projects between Rs 20 crore and Rs 75 crore, the rates will be Rs 12 for car, jeep, Tata Sumo, Rs 18 for light vehicles, Rs 35 for trucks and buses, Rs 60 for heavy vehicles, Gadkari added.
