CHANDIGARH, April 30: The National Federation of Indian Women should be an autonomous body, with powers to prosecute the culprits, said Amarjit Kaur, general secretary of the NFIW, while addressing mediapersons here today.
Amarjit, who is on a tour to various states in the country to address and mobilise women organisations, said that her federation wanted complete autonomy in order to bring the culprits to book.quot; We have been given the right to recommend and prosecute and NIFW should be given the right to ensure equality of status to women?quot; asked Amarjit.
Commenting on the Supreme Court8217;s ruling pertaining to sexual harassment of women at the workplace, she said these directions have not been implemented at the workplaces. quot;No institutions, be it offices, schools have set up complaint cells for women to register their complaints no female representatives within these institutions are selected for this purpose.quot; She said their association would ensure that these rulings are implemented at the grassroot level.
She said NFIW was not only identifying the problems being faced by women at various levels, but was also seeing that women were actually benefited from various schemes of the government.
quot; The government has put up some really stupid conditions to benefit from these schemes and they communicate nothing but mistrust, quot; she said.
