Neyveli Lignite146;s 4,909 cr thermal project okayed

The government on Thursday approved a Rs 4,909.54 crore thermal power project by Neyveli Lignite Corporation NLC, which will add 1,000 mw capacity to the southern grid. It was decided at a Cabinet meeting that the project would be executed by a JV between NLC and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. Information and Broadcasting minister P R Dasmunsi said, 8220;The power generated from Tuticorin power project units would cater to the demand of the states in the southern region.8221;
