VADODARA, Nov 23: The need to increase the number of seats in professional courses in the state was stressed at a discussion organised by the Quality Improvement Circle here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, circle vice-president G Bhojani said that in comparison to the neighbouring states, students of this state are at a loss by 500-700 seats. Bhojani claimed that there were as many as 2,7160 seats in Maharashtra and as many as 18,000 seats in Karnataka. Bhojani said as such the seats were limited, adding to that students from other Boards, including the Central Board, were also competing for the available seats.

Claiming that the members of the All-India Council for Technical Education had assured to increase the seats last year, he regretted that they had not even reviewed the situation this year. He alleged that students of the state were also at a disadvantage because of the delay in sessions and lack of initiative on part of technical education authorities, who failed to start classes after admissions were over.
