
The Seven Sisters and Sikkim today demanded from the Centre a special package that would make the Northeast a favoured destination of the big industries.
R K Kyndiah, Minister for Development of the Northeast, said that all the states had objected to the Centre passing on the subsidies and special incentives to other states. Summing up the day-long deliberations of the 52nd meeting of the Northeast Developmental Council, Kyndiah said, 8216;8216;Initially, all the special incentives were meant for this region but the Centre later passed on the same package to several other states. This time we want to be delinked from other states,8217;8217; Kyndiah said. The members of the council are Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Sikkim.
