
NEW DELHI, July 23: New Delhi Heroes registered a 2-1 facile victory over Garhwal Heroes in a group A match of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Football League championship held at Ambedkar Stadium here today.
At the interval, N D Heroes led by a solitary goal. The victory put N.D. Heroes8217; points tally at 21 points from 10 matches while Garhwal Heroes gathered have collected eight points from nine matches.
N.D. Heroes have confirmed their berth for Super League Championship from group A. Other teams to follow are Hindustan Football Club with 25 points from nine matches and Shastri who have collected 22 points from 10 matches.
Garhwal Heroes started the game at a fast pace and got a socring opportunity in the opening minute of the game itself but forward Sunil Chaudhary fumbled near the goalmouth. Thereafter, N.D. Heroes settled down and started mounting pressure against the opponents by initiating good moves through mid-fielders Subash Negi and Vikram Bhandari. Inside-right Neeraj Bisht opened the scoring for N.D. Heroes in the 25th minute.
On changing ends, both teams confined themselves to the mid-area most of the time and no serious threats at scoring were made by either side. In the 50th minute of the game, N.D. Heroes8217; defender Paritosh Sharma increased the lead to 2-0 off a fine solo effort after receiving a ball from the left flank. Garhwal Heroes got an opportunity in the 55th minute when R.S. Negi was successful in reducing the margin to 1-2.
