HYDERABAD, DEC 7: People’s War Group (PWG) Naxalites went on the rampage in Andhra Pradesh shooting down two policemen, blasting a railway track and setting ablaze a State Transport bus in separate incidents since late Monday night.

The unabated Naxalite violence in the State was reportedly in retaliation to the shooting down of three top Naxalites in an encounter with police in Karimnagar district last Thursday.

Police said here Tuesday that the PWG extremists shot dead two police constables and injured two others near Eturunagaram village in Warangal district late Monday night.

The policemen, along with an assistant sub-inspector, were returning from the village in a jeep after removing some banners erected by the extremists when the Naxalites opened fire on the police party. The assistant sub-inspector escaped unhurt. The Naxals took away three rifles.

In another incident in Adilabad district, the Naxalites blasted a railway track near Vempuri station affecting the running of several long distancetrains including the New Delhi-Bangalore Rajdhani Express, the Secunderabad-New Delhi Dakshin Express and the Ahmedabad-Chennai Navjeevan Express.

According to South Central Railway sources here, a large contingent of railway personnel has deployed to repair the damaged track as soon as possible and would be thrown open to traffic later in the day.

Meanwhile, a RTC bus was set ablaze by the PWG extremists at Marrimutyalu village in Warangal district. They also set fire to furniture and other articles in the house of District Central Cooperative Bank director P Laxminarasimha Reddy at Vecharevu village in the same district.
