Two judicial officers from Haryana were Thursday elevated and sworn in as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a step aimed at addressing judicial vacancies and reducing case pendency.

Justice Ramesh Chander Dimri and Justice Neerja Kulwant Kalson took oath at a ceremony held on the High Court premises, with Chief Justice Sheel Nagu administering the oath of office.
Prior to their elevation, Justice Dimri served as District and Sessions Judge in Yamunanagar, while Justice Kalson was District and Sessions Judge in Rohtak.

The Central government notified their appointments on January 2, 2026, following the Supreme Court collegium’s recommendation, dated December 16, 2025.
With these appointments, the working strength of the High Court has risen to 61 judges. The court continues to face a heavy caseload, with about 4.20 lakh cases pending, according to the National Judicial Data Grid, reflecting a reduction of over 11,000 cases compared to January 2025.

The sanctioned strength of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is 85 judges. Additional judges are appointed initially for a two-year term and may be confirmed as permanent judges based on performance.
Both appointments are from the Haryana judicial service, in line with ongoing efforts to fill vacancies in the common High Court serving Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The latest elevations are expected to help ease delays in the delivery of justice across the region.
