
NASHIK, Dec 2: Two Naxalites, arrested from a tribal hamlet in the Peth taluka early on Sunday, were remanded yesterday to judicial custody till December 12. Seema Hirani, daughter of a chartered accountant from Mumbai, and Bhima Kankalwar from Chandrapur, had been arrested by the police while they were asleep at Karanjpada hamlet near Gotvihir in Peth taluk.
The police seized two country-made revolves, two choppers, Naxalite literature, radio and Rs 6,700 in cash from the duo, affiliated with the Peoples8217; War Group PWG.
According to Peth-Surgana MLA, Harishchandra Chavan, the duo had threatened Bhaurao Chaudhary-Patil from Ghanshet for being a police informer. Bhaurao had informed the Harsul police station, which ignored his complaint till Chavan spoke to district superintendent of police, Himanshu Roy. Bhaurao has now been provided with police protection. Meanwhile, Chavan has demanded the arrest of four Naxalites who are active in the region.
