MUMBAI, Oct 19: Chembur English fought back gallantly after trailing by a goal to hold Naval Dockyard to a 1-1 draw in the MDFA-conducted Harwood football league at the St Xavier8217;s ground, Parel, today.

Naval Dockyard was the better side and dominated the proceedings. But they had to wait till the 44th minute to convert their superiority into terms of a goal.

Dockyard raised the level of their game with speed being their forte after a blank first-half. Their goal came in splendid fashion when Sebastian Caldeira beat Chembur English goalkeeper Robin Pereira hands down with a powerful top-of-the-box effort.

Chembur English equalised in the 56th minute following a direct free-kick. Napolean Pereira8217;s rising shot dipped into goal at the far corner, giving Dockyard goalkeeper Jonas D8217;Souza no chance to effect a save.

Thereafter the defences dominated and most of the game was fought in midfield but Dockyard had a chance of snatching a win. But unnfortunately for them, Praveen Goveas shot over the crosspiecefrom close range in the 61st minute.

In Division III-B, a lone goal by Cedric Vaz turned out to be the match-winner for Bombay Republicans against Mobilink.
