My first impression

This is the most exotic field one can choose. When I entered it, I was quite overweight and the first thing that struck me was that one needed to be slim to look good. I was also taken up with the idea of making good clothes look better, by way of the design and cut. Designing is not about glamorous or expensive clothes, but about giving even an ordinary attire a special touch to make it look classy. Today, I can make even a Rs. 20 shirt look glamorous just by its design.

One had heard that there is a lot of politics in this line, but I have yet to encounter any. Perhaps because I am not in the mainstream and am more involved with teaching. But all in all, my first and continued impression of the fashion designing field is that you can never say you know everything. Even after being in the line for 10 years, I am still learning. And I feel that I know just about 40 per cent of everything there is to learn.
