If you8217;re helplessly in love, then you should be able to quot;feelquot; Rabba ki kariye by Sukhwindara Singh. Even otherwise. An excellent piece of work, this is exactly one of those songs which should be heard and felt, not seen. In totality, RKRSPHG is a pleasent audio track.

Anyway, I suggest you buy yourself a copy of this cassette and feel good about it.

BETI NO 1

For me, the real hero of Pankaj Parashar8217;s Chaalbaaz and Rajiv Rai8217;s Tridev has always been Viju Shah. Much like Farah Khan for Kaho Naa8230; Pyaar Hai and Anurag Kashyap for Shool. Since then, I8217;ve been in awe of Viju Shah and have been diligently buying his work. Even efforts like Janam and Mukaddar Ka Baadshah8230; As you may have noticed, I8217;m trying my level best to say something good. But even my complete awe for him cannot stop me from stating that Beti No 1 is one of, if not the worst work from him. Kya bekaar hain! And the irony of the situation is that this soundtrack has one of the best collection of singers all in the same place. There8217;s Abhijeet, Amit Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan. It8217;s a criminal offense to waste talent like this!

Tune jo liya by Abhijeet and Paudwal is about the only song which might have some mass appeal. For the rest, I suppose the only hope remains Govinda, whose sheer on-screen presence has made many a dead song come alive on screen in the past. So let8217;s just see whether Govinda can dive in and raise this Titanic of an album. Good Luck anyway.

JOSH

The music of the first monosyllabic film from Mansoor Khan can also be described in a single word. Excellent. Not quite the standard of QSQT or the mindblowing JJWS, but Mr Malik has definitely surpassed his earlier outing with the filmmaker in Akele Hum Akele Tum.

Of the six tracks, three are very cool8230; Sailare sailure by Suresh Peter and Mano is greatly vibrant, making it the second coolest song in the album. Good to see Mano finally singing for music directors from Mumbai. I challenge anyone not to hum Hai mera dil after hearing it. Meanwhile, the other Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik number, Hum to dil haare is for me the only low point in the whole album. I cannot say anything about the Abhijeet-rendered Mere khyalon ki malika. Nothing I write can express how well he sings the song. My saalam to Abhijeet.

Zinda hain hum to is perhaps not as energetic as you would expect with the combined forces of Abhijeet, Jolly Mukherjee and Hema Sardesai, but good enough to be classified as the third coolest song. Which brings us to the coolest song of the album: Apun bola by Shah Rukh Khan and Hema Sardesai! Even though I approached the song as yet another Khan-rendered song, I must admit 8212; even at the risk of sounding like a fan 8212; the Khan, with equal support from Sardesai, has done himself proud. Great song, great singing. Way to go. If picturised well, we could be looking at another Ghulam. If not, we may have a Hello Brother in hand.

My money is on Ghulam. Go buy a copy.

Music: Anu Malik. Lyrics: Sameer, Nitin Raikwar. Tapes/CDs: Venus
