Ranchi police have booked five students of Birla Institute of Technology BIT, Mersa, on murder charges following the death of a 21-year-old student of the institution.

Amit Lal was found dead inside his room No 94 at the BIT hostel No 3 on Tuesday night. The police recovered the body and sent it to the government hospital here for post-mortem8212;the report is awaited.

While the BIT, Mersa Vice-Chancellor S K Mukherjee has maintained that it was a case of 8216;8216;suicide8217;8217;8212;Amit failed to get promoted to the fifth semester8212;the police filed an FIR last night, acting on a letter written by Amit8217;s father Prem Prakash Lal, a resident of Doranda, to Ranchi SSP Anil Palta.

8216;8216;No arrests will be made till our inquiry is complete,8217;8217; SSP Palta told The Indian Express. All the five students have been named in the FIR.

Prem Prakash Lal8217;s letter alleges that his son was murdered by the five students though the motive has not been mentioned.

8216;8216;In the evening of October 188230;one of the boys rang him up and asked him to come an attend a party at BIT8230; Amit left home and went to BIT by bus at 8 pm8230;In that party, he was made to eat and drink,8217;8217; says the letter to Palta.
